Lorna has worked at St Christopher’s hospice for 18 years having started as a newly qualified physiotherapist in 2008 after a career change. Lorna comes to the conference to share experience and conversation about Rehabilitative Palliative Care, the fundamental principles behind it, and why this approach is key to evolving practice and continued high standards of patient care. 

Dame Cicely Saunders said ‘All the work of the professional team … is enable the dying person to live until he dies, at his maximal potential, performing to the limit of his physical and mental capacity with control and independence whenever possible’. This session asks us to question whether regardless of our profession, we are truly using a rehabilitative approach to enable and empower patients or quite the opposite. If the latter, what changes can be made to ensure we are empowering and enabling rather than disempowering and disabling.
